Parental Engagement Policy - Lady Margaret Primary School

Parents play a vital role in education. When parents are engaged and involved, everyone benefits – students, parents, families, teachers, schools and communities – and our school is enriched as a positive place to teach, learn and grow. Lady Margaret Primary School is a place where parents are welcomed and encouraged to support their children’s learning and development.

Vision

Parent engagement has a positive impact on student achievement. At Lady Margaret Primary School, pupils are supported and inspired to learn in a culture of high expectations in which parents:

Are welcomed, respected and valued as partners by the school community in their children’s learning and development;
Have a full range of choices and opportunities to enable them to be involved and support student success;
Are engaged through ongoing communication and dialogue to support a positive learning environment at home and at school
Are supported through various curriculum workshops, invitations to observe lessons and reading and maths cafes to inform parents about their children’s learning and to encourage them to support their children at home using the strategies taught by the teachers
We encourage parents to support their children’s learning by providing the children with regular homework (see homework guidance), providing several curriculum workshops throughout the school year to help parents support their children and encouraging staff to be approachable so that parents can ask for support when they require it;
We have regular assemblies which celebrate the learning and successes of our pupils and encourage parents to attend as much as possible;
Parents are supported by the school as we run English classes for parents, a Parenting Programme for Parents as EAL learners and Parent Gym. These classes help parents to gain the confidence they need to support their children’s learning.
