Reception

Children learn Phonics from the beginning of Reception Year. Skilled Phonics leaders train other staff and help them develop string knowledge of Phonics… They match pupils with the right reading book so that they can practice reading what they have learned.” (Ofsted May 2021) 

In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, more information can be found under ‘Useful information’. If your child turns 4 before 31 August 2023 you may apply for a reception place for your child to start in September 2023. The application process opens 1 September 2022. The deadline for main round admissions is 15 January 2023.

National offer day is 17 April 2023. Online applicants receive an email with the result of their application. Offer letters are sent by post to paper applicants.

Deadline for parents to respond to offers made on national offer day is 3 May 2023. If you do not respond to your offer the place may be withdrawn and offered to another child.

In-year admissions: Reception to Year 6

Children can join Lady Margaret during the academic year from other local schools, if they have moved into the area from elsewhere in the UK or from overseas. This type of admission is known as ‘in-year’ admissions.

Nursery

At Lady Margaret Primary School we are very proud of our nursery provision, ‘Remember – it’s not what we do for the children that is important – it’s what you teach them to do for themselves.’

  • We have a 78 place nursery, 39 in the morning 8.30am to 11.30am and 39 in the afternoon 12.30pm to 3.30pm. We admit pupils in the term after their 3rd birthday.
  • We have a limited number of extended day nursery places available. Parents can purchase additional hours so that children can attend from 8.30am to 3.30pm. These are offered on a first come first served basis and places are secured with a deposit. We also accept children who qualify for 30 hour funding.   • If you would like your child to start in September 2023 please complete the form below and return to the school office to be added to our waiting list. Letters will be posted in June 2023 with more information.

Applying for high school

At Lady Margaret staff are ambitious for our pupils and ensure the transition to high school is smooth, through establishing strong partnerships with a range of high schools.

Applications must be made directly to the council that you are living in at the time of application, regardless of the borough which the school is in. The deadline for applying for high school is 31 October 2022. Applications received after this date are late and will not be considered until after national offer day.

The national offer day for on time applicants is 1 March 2023. If you apply online you will receive an email in the evening on 1 March confirming the school that has been offered. You will need to confirm whether you are accepting or declining the place that has been offered by 15 March.
